The breed originated in Slovakia, in Central Europe, and is bred for deer tracking and boar hunting. The Swedish Slovenský Kopov Club (SSKK) was formed in 2002 and currently has about 100 paying members. SSKK is part of the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK). SSKK is a member of the international Slovenský Kopov club MZKCHSK and participates in international events in the member countries.
